Welcome, raiders of Ancestral Arcanum! This guide outlines our tactical roadmap for our upcoming progression attempts within the Vaults of Atal’Utek on the Coiled Isle.
Patch 12.1 System Updates & Raid Prep
Before jumping into the boss encounters, ensure you are utilizing the new features introduced in Patch 12.1 to maximize our efficiency:
- Group Loot Modernization: Need/Greed priorities now dynamically account for off-spec unlocks, preventing dead items from rotting on bosses.
- Nebulous Voidcore Bonus Rolls: Remember to purchase your weekly Voidcores from the vendor before raid time; save these for the final two bosses.
- Streamlined Great Vault: The raid milestone has been updated to unlock maximum reward choices after 6 boss kills instead of the old metrics.
1. Nek’zali the Soulcoiler
Core Mechanics
- Soul Coil Ignition: Periodic raid-wide Shadow-Nature pulses that scale up in damage the longer the phase continues.
- Essence Rend: Targets multiple non-tank players, summoning a dragging spirit that attempts to pull them toward the central void vortex.
- Hollowing Strikes: A tank-buster cleave that reduces maximum health by 8% per stack.
Ancestral Arcanum Execution Strategy
- Normal Strategy: Tanks swap strictly at 8 to 10 stacks of Hollowing Strikes. Targeted players must run directly opposite the vortex. Healers should delay dispelling Essence Rend until the spirits are safely near the outer walls to prevent void puddles dropping in the center.
- Heroic Adjustment: The pulse from Soul Coil Ignition leaves a permanent Latent Void patch beneath two random players. Ancestral Arcanum will use a tight, counter-clockwise grouping strategy around the inner ring to stack these puddles cleanly and maximize usable floor space.
2. Entombed Sentinels
Core Mechanics
- Dual Golems: This fight features two active bosses (The Emerald Construct and The Ruby Vanguard) that must be kept at least 40 yards apart to prevent a 200% damage buff.
- Emerald Pool & Slime Overflow: The Emerald Construct spawns green slimes that pulse deadly raid-wide AoE upon reaching 100 energy.
- Ruby Shatter & Group Soak: The Ruby Vanguard targets a random player with a massive physical meteor impact that must be split.
Ancestral Arcanum Execution Strategy
- Normal Strategy: We will split Ancestral Arcanum evenly into two balanced sub-groups (Group A and Group B). Group A anchors the Emerald boss on the left, prioritizing and burning down green slimes instantly. Group B anchors the Ruby boss on the right, stacking tightly to split the Ruby Shatter damage.
- Heroic Adjustment: At 100 energy, the bosses trigger an intermission and swap sides. DPS must stop damage instantly on their primary target to ensure both bosses reach the transition window simultaneously. Crossing the room triggers a heavy tracking DoT, requiring active healer cooldown rotations during the cross.
3. The Lost Explorers
Core Mechanics
- Mor’zahi’s Command: A council encounter featuring three possessed tortollan. Mor’zahi shifts his elemental turtle stance every 60 seconds, empowering one explorer while shielding another.
- Spike Shell Spin: A high-speed, bouncing shell mechanic that tracks targeted players and shatters armor.
- Vortex Call: Shifting winds pull players into hazardous elemental zones across the arena.
Ancestral Arcanum Execution Strategy
- Normal Strategy: Tanks must actively monitor which turtle is currently empowered by Mor’zahi’s Command. The active tank handles the empowered boss while the off-tank isolates the other two. DPS must swap targets immediately to break the cast shields on the secondary turtles.
- Heroic Adjustment: When Spike Shell Spin targets a player, they must kite the shell into the environmental Vortex Call pillars. Forcing the shell into a vortex stops the spin early but triggers a heavy raid-wide burst. Healers must call out a defensive rotation for each shell stop.
4. Vashnik the Malignant
Core Mechanics
- Imbibe Fountain: Vashnik walks to one of three environmental fountains (Fire, Shadow, or Blood) to empower his abilities.
- Volatile Embers (Fire): Spawns fire elemental adds that pulse raid-wide fire damage and leave a stacking DoT when killed.
- Umbral Veil (Shadow): Creates an absorption shield on the boss that pulses lethal shadow damage until broken.
Ancestral Arcanum Execution Strategy
- Normal Strategy: Tanks must pull Vashnik away from active fountains to slow down his energy gain. When he drinks from the Shadow fountain, all DPS must dump their highest burst cooldowns to break the Umbral Veil shield before the fourth pulse.
- Heroic Adjustment: During the Fire phase, killing a Volatile Ember add applies a raid-wide ticking DoT payload. Ancestral Arcanum cannot AoE these adds down blindly. DPS must deliberately stagger add deaths by 4–5 seconds to allow the healer team to clear the stacks.
5. Sszorak
Core Mechanics
- Venomous Surge: A massive, platform-wide wave that sweeps from one side to the other, leaving clean patches only on the far corners.
- Mutilate: A directional, front-facing cone slam aimed at the active tank that amplifies all physical damage taken by 300% for anyone hit.
- Tornado Tempest: Summons tracking sand tornadoes that knock up and silence anyone caught inside them.
Ancestral Arcanum Execution Strategy
- Normal Strategy: The raid must stack loosely near the platform edges to ensure Tornado Tempest spawns far from the center. When Venomous Surge is cast, the entire team must use movement-speed abilities to reach the safe corner coordinates instantly.
- Heroic Adjustment: Mutilate can no longer be soaked by the tank alone due to an overwhelming lethal damage threshold. We will divide our melee and physical classes into two designated soaking groups. These groups will take turns standing with the tank to split the damage, swapping back and forth to let the physical vulnerability debuff drop off.
6. The Twin Fangs (Vexhul & Ithraz)
Core Mechanics
- Eternal Venom: A stacking debuff applied to the entire raid over time. Reaching 10 stacks results in instant death.
- Serpentine Submerge: The bosses take turns diving beneath the platform, sending sweeping death beams across the playing area.
- Uncoiled Wrath: If one boss dies more than 15 seconds before the other, the surviving twin enrages, wiping the raid.
Ancestral Arcanum Execution Strategy
- Normal Strategy: Tanks must keep Vexhul and Ithraz close enough for cleave but facing away from each other. DPS must carefully balance their damage to keep both bosses’ health percentages identical. During Serpentine Submerge, look for the shadow ripples on the floor to predict and dodge the incoming death beams.
- Heroic Adjustment: The Eternal Venom stacks can only be reset by interacting with cleansing fonts located on opposing platforms. Ancestral Arcanum will execute a synchronized group swap across the platforms at exactly 6 stacks of the debuff.
7. The Coiled Altar (Zul’jan & Malacrass)
Core Mechanics
- Dread March: Dark energy shields target random raid members, placing them under mind control. They march toward the altar edges to jump off.
- Soul-Sever Frontal: A linear tank cleave that rips the souls out of hit players, creating hostile shadow ghosts.
- Soul Fragments: Spawning entities that march toward the boss to heal them.
Ancestral Arcanum Execution Strategy
- Normal Strategy: When Dread March occurs, single-target crowd control (stuns, roots, blinds) must be cast on our mind-controlled teammates immediately. DPS must break their shields to free them before they reach the edge. Tanks should face the Soul-Sever Frontal away from the main group.
- Heroic Adjustment: Hostile shadow ghosts can no longer be damaged directly by normal abilities. Instead, the active tank must intentionally aim the Soul-Sever Frontal directly through the path of the marching shadow ghosts. This is the only way to disintegrate them before they reach the altar and trigger an immediate wipe.
8. Ula’tek
Core Mechanics
- Cataclysmic Poison: The final boss blankets the floor in expanding corridors of volatile slime, severely limiting room movement.
- Void Genesis: Creates a universal tier curio projection that grants the boss sweeping mechanical immunities until destroyed.
- Abyssal Gaze: A lethal gaze targeting the active tank that requires an instantaneous off-tank taunt swap.
Ancestral Arcanum Execution Strategy
- Normal Strategy: The raid will pull Ula’tek to the absolute entrance wall of the room, slowly pulling her backwards along the outer perimeter as Cataclysmic Poison expands. When Void Genesis occurs, all ranged DPS must pivot immediately to eliminate the curio projection.
- Heroic Adjustment: Phase transitions completely lock down player movement for 10 seconds via a heavy sludge debuff. Ancestral Arcanum will save Bloodlust/Heroism specifically for these transition windows. Our healers will cycle major raid cooldowns here to carry the guild through the heavy ticking damage while our characters are rooted in place.
